A workshop will typically have between 3-5 presenters. A workshop can involve formal oral presentations by activists, academics, researchers, LGBT NGOs and mainstream organisations, or others interested in the LGBT rights movement, but can also include individual testimonies, performances, screenings of films or videos, discussions, or practical training.
Workshop presenters will each have about 15 minutes to present their work, followed by a discussion. Workshops will be organised on the basis of submitted abstracts.
Proposals for workshops that will also focus on examples of good practices will be prioritised.
A proposal can be for:
- A single presenter (World Outgames, Co-presidents and the International Advisory Group will group the single speakers on related topics in a workshop and provide someone to chair the workshop)
- A chair and 3 - 5 presenters (this is defined as a self-organised workshop)
- Screenings of film or videos, posters, performances or individual testimonies
The conference themes
Participants are asked to submit their workshop proposals for one of the ten overarching conference themes. The themes are interlinked so that workshops can relate to one or more themes. It is also possible to submit abstracts under the open theme category.
See the conference themes.
Language
The official language of the conference is English. The plenary sessions will be offered in English, French and Spanish with the participants benefiting from simultaneous translation. Please note that only a few numbers of workshops will have translation into French or Spanish. Please also note that we prefer workshop proposals in English.
Material available for workshop presenters
All the workshops will include a visual screen projector and a portable computer making it possible to display video or Power Point. The larger rooms will also have a microphone for the speakers.
Evaluation of workshop proposals
World Outgames, the conference co-presidents, and the members of the International Advisory Group will meet to consider and evaluate the workshop proposals October 2008. Hereafter each author will be notified as to whether their workshop proposal has been accepted for the conference. Notification of acceptance will be issued no later than January 2009.
