With OutCities World Outgames 2009 is taking over the streets of Copenhagen with a cultural celebration of diversity in the world today.
The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen has invited the mayors of global cities to join their local LGBT community in bringing their best queer arts and culture to the OutCities world festival week from 25 July to 2 August 2009.
So far, Rio de Janeiro, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Mexico City, Melbourne and Denmark’s very own Aarhus have said they’re coming to fill the squares and streets of Copenhagen with artists creating music, installations, events, and performances on the themes of gender, identity and diversity.
World OutGames is providing each OutCity with a unique city platform to showcase their own local manifestations of artistic and cultural diversity. In close collaboration with the OutCities we’ll be giving everyone in town, during World OutGames, a unique experience of global arts and culture stretching from the blue waters of the harbour to the leafy green of Copenhagen’s parks.
Each OutCity is currently developing an arts and culture program with 20 of the city’s best artists.Together they’ll be presenting a vast array of world arts and culture - a world city festival in the streets of Copenhagen.
Each of the cities is also planning a unique OutCities party for everyone who signs up for World Outgames 2009. The party concepts are designed by the OutCities, who’ll be bringing their own DJs, VJs and musicians to Copenhagen. You can look forward to everything from chill-out parties with a mellow lounge atmosphere to full-volume techno basements.
