The Out Choir Festival
Imagine being able to spend eight fabulous days at the height of the Danish summer celebrating the joy of song together with hundreds of singers from the international LGBT community.
From 25 July to 2 August 2009 you can experience an amazing week of professional singing coaching, choral competitions, open-air concerts and lots of social gatherings.
Come to Copenhagen loud and proud, and be part of the global LGBT celebration that is World Outgames 2009, with tournaments in 38 sports disciplines, the World Outgames Human Rights Conference and much, much more.
As part of World Outgames, singers in the Out Choir Festival will have endless opportunities to make new friends, sing new songs – for fun, parties, networking, romance and touching people through song.

Preliminary program
The preliminary program includes:
- Opening event in the afternoon of Sunday, 26 July 2009.
- Welcome concert with the LGBT choirs of Copenhagen.
- A joint rehearsal of a joint festival song (to be announced).
- Socializing.

Festival Choirs
Festival choirs will be comprised of the festival participants. You can join two of the four Festival Choirs:
- Musicals
- Classic
- Pop/jazz
- Gospel/World
Each Festival Choir will have a professional conductor and rehearse 2-4 songs to be presented at two concerts. Festival Choir rehearsals take place in the mornings from 9.00 – 11.30.
Choir Concerts
The four Festival Choirs will be scheduled for at least two concerts each:
- The Out Choir Festival gala concert on Friday, 31 July 2009
- Open-air concerts on Saturday 1 August 2009.
Single choirs can be scheduled for 20-30 minute concerts during the week:
- On open-air stages in central Copenhagen.
- At the Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames sports venues.
- At social institutions like residential home and hospitals.
- At the Out Choir Festival gala concert (only winners of the choir competition).
At the concerts each choir chooses their own repertoire, including at least one or two songs from their home country.
Choir Competition
10 choirs can attend the choir competition in the afternoon of Wednesday, 29 July. In the competition each choir will sing two songs:
- A 3-5 minute song chosen by the choir itself
- A set song (to be announced) for the choirs free arrangement and interpretation.
An appointed professional committee (to be announced) will select the winning choirs of the competition. The criteria for selecting the winning choirs will be announced.
Social Events
During the Out Choir Festival there will be evening events for socializing with the other choirs.
Organisation
The Out Choir Festival is organised in collaboration with:
- The LGBT Choirs of Copenhagen.
- The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) Choir and Orchestra.

To participate in the Out Choir Festival you have to register.
The price of participating in the Out Choir Festival is 1,500 DKK per person. But if you register before 1 October 2008 you get an Early-Bird discount and the price is only 1,200 DKK. Use the currency converter to find the price in your own currency.
